I just wrote a 54,000 word novel in a month. (I type and scribble really, really fast. Thank you, Ready Writing back in High School!) What kept the writer’s block at bay? Music. I knew the feel of the novel’s arc. Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, Madeline Peyroux, Billie Holiday, and Daisy, Kitty& Lewis made up the soundtrack for that book. I’m plotting my next novel now, taking care to consider not only plot points but mood music as well.

Do you write to a soundtrack? Do you have other methods of overcoming hesitations to make the most of limited writing time?
